Book due for publication 2025
When real crime, is stranger than fiction.
A captivating memoir of a Lancashire lad who wanted to be a cop. From the streets of Manchester to the shores of Portsmouth, this is a journey of courage and resilience that explores the complexities of human experience. The author's vivid storytelling brings to life what it was like to grow up 'Up North', surrounded by bad influences he nearly never made it. The book describes how he travelled, chasing the American dream, to the gritty reality of inner city police work in the 1990s.
From the thrill of the chase, the quiet moments of reflection, to the more humorous incidents that police attend. Fighting armed and dangerous criminals, would pail into insignificance, compared to the fight to save his life, when he suffered a massive, life threatening brain haemorrhage, while at work...... A true story of resilience. This book offers a poignant and honest portrayal of a life well-lived.
Richard grew up in Rochdale near Manchester and in the early 1990s, became a police officer in Portsmouth, Hampshire. Richard loves story telling and is always amazed at how interested people are to learn about what being a police officer is really like. Richard is an experienced public speaker at commercial events, universities and for smaller community organisations, delivering talks on cyber crime and ransomware, to local policing history. Since retiring from the police service, he decided to create a book of his memoirs. 'Inside a Coppers Head' is his debut non-fiction novel, that will hopefully become a best-seller.
In the future, Richard is planning to write a number of fiction crime novels. Stay tuned for more...
